Student Focus Winners

2010 Student Focus winner: Escuela Argentina de Fotografía, Argentina

Students - Victoria Ines Dobaño& Rodrigo Terrén Toro

For the 2010 Student Focus competition students were asked to produce a series of images which explored the notion of ‘Power’. We have been delighted with the quality of work submitted, the students interpreted the brief with intelligence and professionalism and the judges were impressed by the originality of thought and true breadth of imagery.

Do we have the power to control nature? We have believed it for thousands of years. Epecuen used to be a turistic Villa with a saltwater lake, sought for its healing properties, ancient sacred place of the original peoples of Argentina. In 1985 it was completely flooded. The result is devastating, quite, disturbing. The power of water is overwhelming, he took up the dead.

The Student Focus competition offers an international platform to support and connect the next generation of photographers. Each year, one academic institution is awarded the Student Focus prize, winning photographic equipment for their photography departments and the students representing the school.

This is an incredible achievement. The honorary Student Focus judges, chosen from the World Photographic Academy, selects one academic institution as the overall winner, through 2 stages of the competition. In 2009, the Student Focus winners had to beat 120 other international schools, to win.

Below, are previous winners and their winning images:
