  • When is the deadline for submissions for World Photography Awards?

    The competition for the Professional and Open competitions will close at 11.59:59pm (GMT) on Wednesday 5th January 2011.

  • How much does it cost to enter the Awards?

    The Sony World Photography Awards are FREE to enter.

  • Who can enter?

    Anyone can enter either competition. The Professional competition is open to all those serious about photography and is judged on the body of work entered. The Open competition is open to anyone with a camera and is judged on a single image. Photographers cannot enter both competitions.

  • How many images can I upload?

    In the Professional competition you can enter a minimum of three and a maximum of 10 images per category. You may enter as many categories as you wish.

    In the Open competition, you can enter up to 3 images in total for free. These images may be entered across any of the categories. (You may enter more by upgrading your membership)

  • How do I submit my images?

    All images should be submitted online.

  • What size / format file should I submit?

    Open Competition: The image should be no smaller than 800Kb and should be submitted as Jpeg or Tiff file.  Maximum file size is 3Mb.

    Professional Competition: The image should be no smaller than 1.2Mb and should be submitted as Jpeg or Tiff file. Maximum file size is 3Mb.

    All entrants must be able to supply a high resolution image suitable for printing in media and an exhibition should the image be required.

  • Do my images need to be taken within a certain timeframe?

    For this current 2011 competition, all images must have been taken in 2010 (January 31st – December 31st 2010).

  • What about published work?

    In the Professional Competition only, images that have been commissioned or acquired to be published for the first time in 2010 can also be entered, but only after the published date. You must be able to prove that this is the first time the work has been published and you must also be able to prove that you have not entered the work previously into the Sony World Photography Awards. Please see point 2.1 of the competition rules for further details.

  • Can I submit manipulated images or do they have to be the original image?

    Yes, the image can be manipulated, however the manipulation must be described in the submission box.

  • I have images in original negatives, how can I enter these?

    These can be scanned into a digital file and then uploaded online via the website.
