Alpha Female Award

To celebrate the engaging photographic work created by women worldwide, Sony US announce the Alpha Female Award. The prize recognizes leading female photographers entering the Sony World Photography Awards Open competition. Aiming to promote international photographers embracing a range of subject matter, this Award acknowledges the rich diversity of photography today. The 2020 winner is Lily Punshon-Dawson. The winner receives a range of Sony digital imaging equipment. The winner’s work will be promoted on the World Photography Organisation digital platforms. 


How to enter

All female photographers entering a single image to any of the ten categories in the Sony World Photography Awards’ Open competition will be considered for the Alpha Female Award. Categories to choose from are Architecture, Culture, Creative, Motion, Landscape, Natural World & Wildlife, Portraiture, Still Life, Travel and Street Photography. 

Submissions are judged by a panel of experts. Images will be rewarded for their power to communicate a visual narrative with excellent technical and creative skills.

Sony Alpha Female Creator-In-Residence program

Sony’s Alpha Female program focuses on creating opportunities for professional female photographers and videographers working in the United States and fostering a richer and more diverse industry.

Six female creators are accepted into the six-month long Alpha Female Creator-in-Residence Programme, during which they each received over $30,000 in grants and equipment, mentorship with an award-winning Sony Artisan of Imagery, and numerous opportunities to raise their profiles in the photography and filmmaking industries.
