Open round ups - our monthly winner and runners up

To celebrate the launch of the 2020 Open competition every week we've been choosing our favorite entries and showcase those images on the blog. One lucky photographer receives the Official 2019 Sony World Photography Awards book (worth £39.98) and a 20 Image Bundle (to enter more images into the Open competition).

WINNER - Valeriy Melnyk

Seeming more like a still from a film than a photograph, this brilliant image immediately caught the World Photography Organisation team's attention. The bright light complements the vivid colors and the interplay of symmetry and asymmetry makes us look back at the image again and again. Congratulations Valeriy Melnyk from Ukraine who entered the Architecture category. You win a 2019 Sony World Photography Awards book and 20 free image credit to submit more pictures to the 2020 Open competition.

RUNNERS UP

A classic shot well seen with excellent post-processing skills, this picture of a fox entered in the Natural World & Wildlife category by Valentin Malinov from Macedonia, stays with you. The vignette and subtle boost of light adds impact to this already arresting portrait of a fox. As a runner up you receive 10 free images credit to enter more photographs to the 2020 Open competition.

This entry by Croatian photographer Boris Kozjak appears almost as if it was shot in a different era. Preferring black & white over color, suggestion over description, the image is as beautiful as it is intriguing. Congratulations Boris Kozjak, as a runner up you can upload 10 images for free to the 2020 Open competition.

Do you have a striking standalone image? Enter our Open competition! You can submit up to three images for free
