"Horizon" by Sam Delaware
Inspired by 20th-century author George R. Stewart’s idyllic descriptions of uncharted land filled with gold and opportunity, Horizon is a contrasting narrative exploring the socio-economic effect of climate change manifesting in rural California through portraiture, landscape, and found still life. As the growth and progress of populations throughout the state continue to inflate an already large carbon-footprint, annual natural disasters are rapidly altering the physical reality of life in this romanticized section of America’s west as a result. Although these circumstances are not entirely new, the preponderance of such recent events, often by man-made cause, signal an unsettling evolving reality that questions the future of vital resources.
