Hi Laura. Please introduce your self and your photography to our audience

Hi! My name is Laura Bell, more commonly known and appreciated as @lauraalycebell on Instagram. I am a photographer based in Melbourne, Australia, specialising in lifestyle, travel and landscape photography however my work also includes fashion, commercial and wedding photography.

Tell us about the series of images we featured. Do you have a favourite, and why?

The images we selected to be featured are all from personal adventures - Tasmania, New Zealand and Indonesia. All completely different experiences in terms of climates, slumming it in camper vans to living comfortably and also in terms of who the experiences were shared with, so it is really hard to choose a favourite.

Being an ocean lover, swimming with manta rays with my fiancé and friends in Indonesia was incredible, and it was one of the first times I had used my underwater camera housing - the combination of the experience and getting to capture the moment was awesome. But then there is New Zealand - hiking Mount Cook in the snow with a group of other like-minded photographers that I didn't know all that well was definitely up there. We watched the sun fade as the sky slowly started to shimmer with stars on a clear night in absolute silence apart from the occasional splitting sound of mini-avalanches breaking off the snow-capped mountains... that was pretty damn amazing!

Why photography? What does the medium mean to you?

Photography has always been a personal interest of mine that I became more passionate about as I started to travel more. I feel completely connected being in the outdoors in the natural world capturing the perfect light. My zen.

Do you have a photographic philosophy?

Photography for me personally is all based on feeling and how it makes me feel. Whether it's watching a beautiful sunset/sunrise or being in the right place at the right time and capturing the perfect moment/light. Looking back on those images and remembering those feelings/experiences is really cool. My aim is to make others feel something through my imagery - whatever resonates with the individual. Photography is a place for me to feel connected and focused because generally, I don't think about anything else whilst doing it - the perfect mindfulness exercise!

What inspires you?

The outdoors and the natural world - the ocean, the mountains, fresh air, the sun. Travelling and experiencing different cultures - forever learning. Instagram as a platform has inspired me a lot over the years, there are some ridiculously talented photographers out there and what a great platform for people to showcase their work. I am inspired daily by some of the artists I follow.
