A pedestrian with a parasol walks through an underground tunnel. The overhead lighting makes it appear as if lightning is striking the umbrella.
Shortlist

BARBARA IWIŃSKA
The Man
I was in Warsaw for a few days and one morning I decided to travel on the Metro and get out at every stop. As I was about to leave this station the sun appeared and I waited for someone to enter the frame at the top of the steps.

Margit Lisa Roeder
The Observer
The Pass Museum on the Timmelsjoch is located at an altitude of 2,509m and documents the history of the Alpine region between Tyrol and South Tyrol. It has the spectacular shape of a boulder and was built by the South Tyrolean architect Werner Tscholl in a very daring place. In search of unusual alpine architecture, I became aware of this impressive concrete building. I obtained permission to spend the night there because the pass road would close overnight. Suddenly, heavy dark clouds appeared, which then seemed to cling to the mountains. Strong wind and freezing cold snow showers surprised me. The atmosphere was incredibly intense. The museum seemed to loom menacingly out of the mountain, like an observer seeing everything and everyone.

Sandra Mickiewicz
Acolyte Holding the Golden Cross.
I went to Norfolk, England, to document the annual National Pilgrimage in Walsingham, which sees people gather from across the UK and the world to celebrate one of the biggest Anglican events. This boy holding a golden cross caught my eye and I asked him if I could take his portrait before he set off in the procession.

Derry Lubell
Andrew
Andrew decided to leave his construction job and try acting. This was one of the first times he was in front of the camera, so we were experimenting to see what worked for him.

Lesley Ormrod
Pressed Flower
I am fascinated by aquilegia flowers and their varied shapes and colours. I picked this one from my garden and pressed it in an old-fashioned flower press to simplify its shape. Once dry and flat I photographed it against a white background using a tripod and a macro lens, to reveal its fragility and make it seem as if it could be lifted from the paper.

Elli Asker
Cubist still life #2
This is one of the images from my project "Dialogue with Art," in which I refer to my favorite artists, in this particular image by Pablo Picasso. Multi-exposure settings were used to create the image.

Andreja Ravnak
Textures
The South Moravian agricultural landscape stretches over low hills and valleys, creating a unique combination of natural curved shapes and manmade geometries. The varying shades of the soil make the winter landscape extremely beautiful, almost unearthly.

Marie-Hélène des Monstiers
Untitled
This building, by the architect Oscar Niemeyer, is called ‘Le Volcan’ (The Volcano). It offers great perspectives from all angles, but the skateboarder sculpture, by the artist Mark Jenkins, makes this photograph more intriguing.
