Sea Level

Sea Level
The sea level markers I saw on a trip to Death Valley, California, reminded me of the waterfowl that once lived in the area. Concerned about climate change and the increasing drought in the western United States, I placed photographs of waterfowl in a surreal desert setting in the hope that it would serve as a reminder that humans need to do the right thing when it comes to climate change.
To Clean the Sea

To Clean the Sea
Every summer, a green algae comes to Qingdao. It often covers several hundred square kilometres, floating on the sea and washing up on the shore, and the local government has funded a scheme to fight it. My photograph has been cut with a knife and rolled up, representing action. It is intended to raise everyone's awareness of marine protection: man should revere nature, live in harmony with it and care for the blue sea and blue sky.

Once Upon a Dream

This image is made from repeated fragments of the same picture, which seek to reconstruct a memory. The pieces are superimposed like the materials in the photograph – stones from the same mountain walls.

Venice is the most photographed city in the world, and the greatest visual excitement lies in the water. For me, Venice is about the abstract, and converting this photograph to black and white brought the lines, shape and form into sharp focus. The key to this image lies in capturing the beauty of the moment.

When I Went To See Nemophila, There Was Only Mr. Moguro
This image consists of more than 300 photographs that I took at the same location in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan.

Untitled
This photograph is from my series, 5th Dimension. Taken in Bali, it transports us into a deep abyss where we encounter vibrant colours and dreamy forms.

Red Beauty
This picture is part of my Unattainable Beauty series, which explores the artificial creation of beauty. The ‘flower model’ was hand assembled using needles and wires, and photographed in the studio. I adjusted the saturation, contrast, colour and brightness in Capture One, then used Photoshop to remove the needles and wires and clean the picture.

Siena
This ‘hidden object picture’ is a collage of sections from various photographs that I took in the Italian city of Siena. I was fascinated by the warm clay colours in the autumn sun.

Maybe Tomorrow I'll Write a Poem
I love magic realism in literature, because it sounds like poetry, but as I am not capable of writing poems with words, I wanted to write them with light instead. This image is part of an ongoing series of self-portraits that represent an intimate dialogue with the artist – a manifestation of her emotions and her inner world that leaves space for the viewer to create their own poem.

Ripped
Wesley Power is a performance artist who constructed a wearable art piece using found cardboard, hot glue and tights. The aim of this project was to be both environmentally conscious (by using reclaimed cardboard) and to create interesting shapes, lighting and texture by combining his work with my photography. This was taken in the studio using continuous lighting.

Zakrzówek: Wild Space in The Heart of The City
Zakrzówek, in Kraków, Poland, is an old quarry surrounded by a national park. In winter the pools are used for cold-water bathing.
The Illusion of Beauty
Ann Zhulan
The Illusion of Beauty
For this image I used a variety of waste papers, creating the illusion of beauty from things that have lost their purpose. Once they end up in the trash can, these objects will no longer have their original form and will be reborn into something new.

Heatwave
A composite of two photographs showing a pair of large, silhouetted, flower-covered stalks collapsing in the summer heat.
