Student Shortlist

When I entered college, I began to think about my relationship with my family. This work is a metaphor for my feelings for my father and mother – feelings of intimacy and separation. I chose to use paint to convey my hesitation and melancholy. The images express recollections of a beautiful childhood, good memories slowly fading away and the various ways in which the good and bad are intertwined.

Han Xu, from Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, is now studying in the Photography Department of Nanjing University of the Arts. Han Xu is good at achieving distinctive visual style through the combination of photography and post Production. His works usually focus on the description of human inner world, with private and subtle expression of personal emotions. At the same time, Han paies attention to social hot topics and depict the concerns and contradictions of contemporary society based on the social context.
