A man on the moon, curved architecture and Kyoto’s Gion Festival: Entries of the Week
Explore our latest selection of photographs recently entered into the Single Image competition.
This week’s gallery moves from the precise choreography of Kyoto’s Gion Festival, captured by Cristian Sinisterra, to the quiet stillness of a lone pelican in Guangzhou, photographed by Haichuwan Wang. Andreas Kanellopoulos turns a simple moment of gathering flowers into a tender portrait, while Jaesok Lim finds symmetry and abstraction in curved architecture and its reflection. Elsewhere, a highliner balances against the rising moon at Seneca Rocks, creating a striking meeting point between human movement and the landscape. Together with the other images in this week’s selection, these photographs show the many ways a single frame can capture a moment, a place or an idea.
Every photograph entered into the Single Image competition is automatically entered into our monthly prize draw, giving photographers another opportunity to be recognised throughout the year. Each month, one winner and two runners-up are selected, receiving 50, 20 and 10 Image Bundles respectively. These free entries can be used to submit even more work to the competition, giving photographers additional chances to be featured and recognised.
Monthly winners don't just receive free entries. At the end of the awards cycle, they also go head-to-head in the People's Choice Vote on Instagram, where the public decides the overall favourite. The winning image is then exhibited as part of the Sony World Photography Awards exhibition at Somerset House, London, placing the photographer's work before thousands of visitors from around the world.
Think your photograph could be next? Submit up to three of your best single images free of charge and you could join our future selections, become a monthly winner, and see your work exhibited alongside some of the world's most compelling photography.
