Speed, stillness and spectacle: Entries of the Week

Explore our latest selection of eight photographs recently entered into the Single Image competition.

This week’s gallery moves between spectacle and stillness. Lawrence Cheung transforms visitors at Paris’s Bourse de Commerce into ghostlike silhouettes beneath its historic dome, while Ray Sasaki uses reaching hands and red light to express the pressure of school, society, friends and family. Peter Crowe freezes a kingfisher diving for fish through a hole in the snow, and Luke O'Shea lets motion blur carry the speed of the Tour de France through Montmartre. Elsewhere, Bofeng Wang captures the fire-breathing skill of Qinqiang opera on stage; Daniel Gheorghiu photographs early-morning razor-clam diggers at low tide on the Oregon coast; Ben Mariner presents a dancer poised between mortal and myth in a scene inspired by the moon and Yemoja; and Paolo Tinti follows bands of light through a historic portico, turning shadow and geometry into deep perspective.

Every image featured in Entries of the Week is entered into a monthly draw, where we select one winner and two runners-up. First place receives a 50 Image Bundle, second place a 20 Image Bundle and third place a 10 Image Bundle. These free entries go straight back into the Single Image competition, giving photographers more opportunities to win.

At the end of the awards cycle, all monthly winners compete in a People’s Choice Vote on Instagram. The overall winner will have their photograph showcased at the Sony World Photography Awards exhibition at London’s Somerset House.
