2019 Sony World Photography Awards - Winner, Discovery, Professional Competition

 

Jean-Marc Caimi and Valentina Piccinni have been collaborating since 2013 on documentary and personal photography projects with a focus on contemporary issues.Their personal involvement and unfiltered approach to documentary photography, with a focus on the human stories, have contributed to international recognition. Their work is regularly featured in the world’s press and media: The Guardian, Der Spiegel, Politico, Le Monde, L’espresso, Internazionale, Wired, GQ, Newsweek, The Sunday Times and many others.

They are the recipients of the 2021 Prix Planche Contact, and in the same year winners of the Call for European photographers at the PhotoBrussels Festival and finalists at the 6Mois grant. They have been the winners of the 2020 PHmuseum Of Humanity Grant in the solo exhibition category, the Sony World Photography Award 2019 in the «Discovery» category, the Istanbul Photo Book Award 2018, the Gomma Grant 2016 for best documentary work in B&W.

They are exhibited throughout Europe and Asia in galleries and festivals, such as International Month of Photojournalism (Italy) the Mannheim Biennale Für Aktuelle Fotografie (Germany), Delhi Photo Festival (India), Lumix Festival, Fotoleggendo, Phest (Italy), Voies Off (France). So far they have published five books including a trilogy on cities in transition including «Güle Güle» on Istanbul, «Forcella» focusing on Naples and «RHOME». «RHOME» was shortlisted for PHotoESPANA Best Photobook of the Year 2019. «Güle Güle» received a special mention at the Kassel Dummy Book Award 2019 and was finalist at the Luma Rencontres Dummy Book Award in Arles and shortlisted for the Arles Author Book Award 2020 and Prix Nadar 2020.
