Look Twice: Entries of the Week

This week's Entries of the Week brings together ten photographs that show just how different those stories can be.

Off the coast of Mauritius, a sperm whale passes beneath a small boat, revealing the extraordinary marine life that exists just below the surface. In Kerala, India, a photographer waiting for the perfect sunrise photograph of a buffalo gets an unexpected visitor when a cattle egret lands on its back.

Elsewhere, a carefully planned crescent moon creates the illusion of horns behind a silhouetted figure, while a handmade ambrotype featuring two mermaids draws attention to the declining health of our oceans. On the other side of the world, a photographer in Japan finds inspiration in traditional art, capturing a cat's remarkably human expression.

From spontaneous encounters to carefully constructed images, this week's selection celebrates the imagination, patience and curiosity behind photography. Each picture offers something beyond what we first see, inviting us to discover the story that inspired it.
