Looking for a platform to celebrate female photographers? The Alpha Female Awards is for you!
The Alpha Female Award is focused on supporting and championing woman photographers around the globe. Set up to empower female photographic talent and promote their work to an international audience, the award aims to create a powerful platform and ensure the photographic industry is a space where both genders can excel.
Providing a powerful platform to empower female photographic talent by promoting their work to an international audience, this award aims to counterbalance the dominate voices within photography industry, ensure diversity and create a space where women photographers can excel.
The award stems from the Alpha Universe’s Alpha Female initiative by Sony US, which focuses on creating opportunities for professional photographers, videographers, and filmmakers to help foster a richer, more diverse creative community. Working with the World Photography Organisation, Sony US have expanded their programme to a global scale by recognising female photographers entering the Sony World Photography Awards Open competition.
Speaking about the programme, Michaela Ions, Leader of Alpha Universe Platform & Alpha Female Program at Sony US, says: ‘The finalists in this year’s Open competition show why having diverse voices represented in photography is so crucial to our understanding of the world around us. Their photos tell stories in unique ways, and to have their art on full display is a step forward for us all in making the photography world a more equal place. We’re proud to support such talented photographers with the Alpha Female+ program and partner with Sony World Photography Awards to uncover and reward extraordinary voices around the world.’
The winning photographer receives Sony digital imaging equipment and worldwide exposure through a dedicated online media campaign. The winning image is also printed in the Sony World Photography Awards book and is displayed in the annual exhibition.
2021 winner Adriana Colombo says about her win: ‘I am immensely honoured to have received this year’s Alpha Female Award. After years of having a job in a different sector I decided to completely change my career path and turn my passion into my job. This important aknowledgement from Sony and the World Photography Organisation confirms I made the right choice. I hope this opportunity allows me to fully realise my projects and to bring my work to an international audience. Sometimes dreams do become reality!’
