Dave Krugman is a photographer, writer and creative director who lives in Boston, USA. We featured a series of his atmospheric, night-time images of New York City on the @worldphotoorg feed. Find out more below...

Hi Dave. Please introduce yourself and your photography to our audience

My name is Dave Krugman, I'm a Brooklyn based photographer, writer and creative director. I take many different approaches to my photography but an overarching theme of my work is how people interact with the world around them.

Tell us about the series of images we featured. Do you have a favourite, and why?

The series of images featured here are indicative of my style in the streets of New York City. I'm very inspired by cinema and the previous generation of street photographers. New York to me is a paradise for photography, and in my work I try to evoke a sense of noir or nostalgia for an era that's rapidly disappearing.

Why photography? What does the medium mean to you?

I've always held a fascination with visual art. In my earliest memories, I remember drawing and painting as always being a huge part of my life. As I matured and grew into the world, I gravitated towards photography because it felt right and natural. I feel like something is missing when I don't have a camera in my hand. Photography is my way of interpreting the world around me, and finding my place within it.

Do you have a photographic philosophy?

I have many philosophies about photography, but one that stands out to me is that a photograph is a stimulus that can set off a cascade of emotion. I love when I see people reacting to my work in a way that shows how it affected them individually. I don't think anyone has the same reaction to a photograph, but a successful photograph is one that can evoke these emotions in people.

What inspires you?

I'm inspired by my peers and the creative community at large. I love that our smartphones are now tools to flex our creative muscles, we have technology in our pockets that far exceeds even my wildest expectations that I had as a younger artist.
