These pictures were taken at the peak of the Aotearoa (New Zealand) summer, on an island conservation park called Aotea (Great Barrier Island). Despite the season, Aotea weathered several summer storms, including cyclones that covered the island in the fog visible in these pictures. The landscapes were taken on the East Coast of the island. They show some of Aotearoa’s best surf beaches; renowned for their vast shores and constant surf. The portraits were taken on the West Coast of the island. This coast is comprised of hundreds of tiny sheltered bays and is known for some of the country’s best diving, boating and fishing. The portraits are of residents of the island and family members of the photographer, and there is one self-portrait.
